Why Choose me

A Will Should Be Written for You, Not the Situation

Your will should be:

  • About your family
  • About your wishes
  • About clarity and reassurance

A truly effective will considers your whole picture, not just your assets — including the people you care about, how you want them protected, and how your wishes should be carried out if circumstances change.

Why a “Free” charity Will may not give you the outcome you expect.

Many charities offer a “free” will‑writing service, often in return for the hope that a gift will be left to them. For some people, this can seem like a helpful option. However, it’s important to understand the limitations of these services before deciding whether they are right for you and your family.

1. Free Wills Are Often Very Basic

Most charity Will Schemes are designed to cover simple situations only. They usually work best if:

  • Your circumstances are straightforward
  • You are married with adult children
  • You want a simple division of assets

They may not adequately account for:

  • Blended families
  • Unmarried partners
  • Young children and guardianship wishes
  • Disabled or vulnerable beneficiaries
  • Complex assets or changing family dynamics
  • If you want to protect your children's inheritance of a property from future spouces of the deceased parent

In these cases, a basic will can unintentionally create issues rather than prevent them.

2. Limited Time and Personalisation

Wills are often written under time and cost constraints. This can mean:

  • Short appointments
  • Limited opportunity to explore all your wishes
  • Little discussion around “what if” scenarios

Wills are not just documents — they are instructions for real life circumstances, and those circumstances deserve time, care, and thoughtful discussion.

3. The Focus May Be Narrow

While charities provide these services with good intentions, the arrangement is usually designed to:

  • Encourage charitable gifts
  • Keep costs low
  • Follow standard templates

This doesn’t mean anything improper is happening, but it does mean that:

  • Broader estate planning considerations may not be explored
  • Alternative options may not be discussed in depth
  • The Will may not evolve as your life changes unless you revisit it independently

4. Risk of Unintended Outcomes

When a Will doesn’t fully reflect your situation, the consequences can include:

  • Loved ones being left out unintentionally
  • Guardianship decisions being unclear
  • Assets being distributed in ways you didn’t intend
  • Increased risk of disputes or legal challenges

Often, these issues only come to light after someone has passed away, when it is too late to correct them.
